Discover What You’ve Been Missing: Discovery Ex

Do you have that sinking feeling of FOMO (fear of missing out)?? You should! You have definitely been missing out on this amazing resource! Educators everywhere with access to Discovery Experience at https://www.discoveryeducation.com/ have a hidden (or maybe not so hidden) gem!

Not only does Discovery EX take the place of those outdated educational video streaming services, it brings so much more to the table! Hundreds of thousands of resources are just a click away! It is truly out of this world!

Search through resources such as interactive experiences, activities, text, songs, podcasts, images, audio, and videos. You can sort by subject, standards, and terms. Discovery EX curates lists of hot topics full of resources frequently. Experts have curated Channels full of content on standards and subjects. The work is done for you!

They also put together a monthly Activity Center full of activities and resources across content areas expertly curated! It is divided out by grade levels: K-2, 3-5, and 6-8.

To further support educators, Educator Support contains SOS Instructional Strategies! This is one of my favorite things! They contain full lessons to support learning with step by step instructions! You can search the SOS Strategies for any topic your students need a little additional assistance with.

Set up a Classroom and immediately assign Videos, articles, and activities to your students! Wow students with full virtual field trips! You can also organize ready year to year by adding to Your Content or just simply subscribe to your favorite channels. Last but not least, there is a whole Professional Learning side with a plethora of topics to extend and grow!

Keller friends, Discovery Education is in KCloud and is a Single Sign On for you and students! Yay!

Queue Up Your Students' Questions with ClassroomQ

Have you ever planned a class work day? Maybe your students will be working on a project, a research paper, a group collaboration, or a homework completion session and you already know that the biggest challenge for you as a teacher will be to make your way around the room to students or groups to answer questions (and let's be honest, you have NO idea who actually raised their hand first!).

❓As a teacher, you DON'T want students wasting valuable work time waiting on you.
❓You also DON'T want to forget who was next in line?

Queue Up with ClassroomQ - a teacher's digital assistant for any classroom work day! Set up is EASY and we recommend using the FREE (Basic) account.

Here are the steps for getting started:

1️⃣. Go to ClassroomQ.com and select

2️⃣. Register for your account and clickto begin a new ClassroomQ session.

3️⃣. Direct students to App.ClassroomQ.com/students and have them enter the code generated for your session. There is NO student log in needed.

4️⃣. Students will see the Assistance Needed button and a Comment box.

Students click the Assistance Needed button when they have a question and can optionally add a comment. (They also have the ability to Cancel their request... maybe they were able to answer the question themselves and move on in their work!!)
5️⃣. As a teacher, you will see:
Click on the student's name to clear request.

Typing like it's 1999

It’s time for a reunion tour, a 100% comeback! Pandemic learning and many students utilizing a one to one device has brought back the need for typing instruction. The greatest hit of typing instruction is here!

Typing.com has you covered with 2022 teaching and beyond! The FREE version is 2 legit 2 quit! It is even recommended by ISTE and follows their suggested scope and sequence! Choose a grade level and lessons! Signing up is simple because it integrates with Google, Microsoft, Clever, and Classlink!!

The dashboard has a real time activity feed and allows you to manage classes, see which students are working, how long they have worked, and much more!  Assign new lessons, create your own challenges, and keep students engaged while learning such a valuable skill. It is super easy to pull reports on progress, accuracy and speed! Educators can differentiate based on specific students and needs. Set individualized goals for each student!

Teachers can even choose their students' login information to keep it simple for easy access.

It is web based, so it works across devices.  There are ads, but they seemed to be kid friendly in the student account and more geared towards 13+  in the educator account.

Students are engaged with multiple views, videos, and challenges. They can constantly see their progress and get immediate feedback! The fun gamification model reinforces techniques with targeted instruction in short lessons.

Their blog is a great resource of information for ideas on how to engage students with typing.

YouTube Keystrokes - Yes Please & Thank You!

Keystrokes are a favorite of mine. I read recently about some super handy YouTube Keystrokes. These are brilliant - I had no idea!

⭐️ Showing a video in class and need to toggle Full Screen, just hit the key.

⭐️ Want to pause for a second and emphasize what has just been taught in the video? Or allow your students to take notes? Use the Space Bar!

⭐️ Need to go Backwards for 5 or 10 seconds to have students hear something again? The left arrow ⬅️ will go back 5 seconds; the key will go back 10 seconds!

⭐️ Need subtitles on the fly? Hit C. Turn them off, C again.

Here is a chart for some of the YouTube keystrokes. Happy teaching!
