Getting the Most Out of BrainPOP - Continuation

Last week, we posted about getting the most out of BrainPOP, an incredible PK-8 digital resource. Our first post will assist you with accessing BrainPOP and entering your students into a class. See post here

This week we will discover how to ASSIGN BrainPOP Resources to your students for learning activities and formative assessment.

1️⃣. Go to your BrainPOP Teacher Dashboard and choose + New Assignment.

2️⃣. Choose the BrainPOP resource you are using in your classroom and search by topic. Upon choosing your topic for learning, you will see a variety of resources that you are able to assign to your class. (Note: Resources will vary by topic.) Choose what you will assign and navigate through the wizard to add instructions, due dates and scheduled dates for your assignment.

3️⃣. Students access their assignments by navigating to their BrainPOP Dashboard, locating their current assignments and completing them.

4️⃣. To see your students' progress, teachers return to the Teacher Dashboard and view the status of completion or grade for each assignment.

BrainPOP has an entire website, BrainPOP for Educators with a robust section to assist Teachers with Lesson Planning, including connection to Academic Standards, Lesson Ideas and Project Examples.

Getting the Most Out of BrainPOP

BrainPOP is an amazing digital resource for our KISD PK-8th grade teachers and students. But, you probably already knew that, right?

You may have shown some of the BrainPOP videos as helpful content support. (Everyone loves Moby and his robot personality, kind of reminds me of DWW lately.)

BrainPOP can be so much more for you as a teacher! We are going to explore some of these options over the next 2 posts here on Digital Learning Tips, Tricks & Tools.

1️⃣ Did you know you have access to multiple BrainPOP products? That's right, if you would like to brush up on your French, you've got BrainPOP Francais!

  • BrainPOP offers content for upper elementary and middle schoolers
  • BrainPOP Jr. offers content that focuses on PK-3rd grade students
  • BrainPOP Espanol offers content in Spanish
  • BrainPOP Fraincais offers content in French
  • BrainPOP ELL offers content in four main language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing to support our ELL population

2️⃣ Accessing BrainPOP in KISD is easier than ever. All teachers and students PK-8 have a BrainPOP application in the Google Apps Launcher (sometimes referred to as the waffle). Open your BrainPOP account here.

3️⃣As a Teacher, you have the ability to create a class in BrainPOP, to assign work to your students and to see their graded items (ie quizzes, responses, etc.) within the application. This can be done in one of two ways:

☝️ Using a Class Code

  • Go to your BrainPOP Dashboard
  • Select + New Class
  • Name and Create Class
  • Students will enter your class with the provided Class Code to receive and complete their assignments

✌️ Import a Google Classroom Roster

  • Already using Google Classroom? A few clicks will connect your student roster to your BrainPOP class. (Note: students will always complete work in the BrainPop application- not in Google Classroom.)
  • Go to your BrainPOP Dashboard
  • Select + Import New Classes
  • Choose the appropriate Google Classroom to connect to BrainPOP

➡️ Stay tuned next week for information on assigning BrainPOP videos and activities to your students!
